FINANCIAL aid/TAX EXPERTS! ASAP?

I applied for Financial Aid and got approved. The Tax info I used was this year, in which I claimed my nephew. Now the next part of the story is The IRS are on my tail because they say that claiming my nephew is not allowed. There is a big possibility that i will have to pay the IRS back. Thats not my problem ****WILL MY STATUS WITH THE IRS AFFECT MY FINANCIAL AID(ITS BEEN APPROVED) I DONT KNOW IF THEY WILL TAKE THE GRANT BACK LATER ? The reason i got approved for the Financial Aid is because I took care of my nephew last year.. DO YOU GET IT? CAN YOU HELP ME PLEASE!!

Answer:
Girl..you in trouble
If you claimed your nephew as a dependant, they shouldn't take your money away from you. I'm not an expert, but my mom adopted my cousin and it hasn't affected my financial aid at all.
As long as you provided for your nephew more than half of the year (and can prove it), you can legally claim him. Financial Aid is based on information from the IRS. Grants do not have to be repaid. However, if it is a loan, you will have to pay it back regardless.
Best bet is to call another college not the one you got the aid from and ask their financial aid officer...
