DIrect Tv or Dish Network?

I really wanna know which one offers better HD channels. More channels the better. N also who offers a better HD Dvr reciever. Also better quality in the picture.

Answer:
Currently Dish Network offers 30 Channels in High Definition in addition to local market networks in High Definition (ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, and PBS). . Dish Network bought the VOOM High Definition satellites / programming which provide them with more High Definition programming than anyone.

DirecTV offers just 9 Channels in High Definition in addition to local market networks in High Definition (ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, and PBS).

DirecTV will eventually add more satellites for High Definition – sometime in 2008

DirecTV and Dish Network non-DVR (Digital Video Recorder) receivers are equal.

DirecTV’s DVR’s are garbage.

I couldn’t live without a DVR – the Dish Network High Definition DVR is excellent.

The best DVR’s are made by TiVo. TiVo announced at CES they will offer an HD DirecTivo (DirecTV TiVo).

If the HD DirecTivo were available now that should strongly influence your decision.

Picture quality is a matter of bandwidth. Not every High Definition channel receives the same bandwidth. The more Bandwidth allocated – the better. The Pay-Per-View Channels get the most, followed by Showtime, HBO, etc. Only the best Displays can differentiate picture quality difference – currently Dish Network has far more bandwidth capability – but unlikely to be noticeable.

Dish Network was the logical choice for me.

Good Luck
I prefer Dish for the following reasons:
1) Dish has the most HD channels
2) They do not have a contract period.
3) Their DVR has built in HDTV tuner.
4) Their dual-tv DVR is unique in that the 2nd television set connection can be connected to existing cable network you have in the house. And the 2nd remote is wireless. That means, you can take the remote to the family room and watch tv; pause it; take the remove and to the bedroom and continue watching on the bedroom tv!
5) cheapest price though that depends on your viewing habits

One bad thing is that they have outsourced their customer care to somewhere in Indonesia or Phillipines. I can never understand that the reps say. On the plus side, I do not have to call them much at all.
I have Dish Network, so far, so good. Love the DVR...have had it three years and no problems. I don't have direct knowledge about Direct TV, but I don't think there is much difference. As for the HD channels, they should be about the same as each will add them as they become available to remain competitive with one another.

One thing you can check is customer service. Bad thing about DISH network is they only have one answer for you 24/7..."Did you try to reset the receiver?" and this has NEVER been conveyed to me by a person. I can't seem to get in touch with one!
If you are interested in sports packages such as Sunday Ticket for the NFL or Extra Innings for Baseball you should go with Directv otherwise they both offer the same channels with Dishnet offering more HD channels.
I hear the new Directv Plus DVRs are horrible. Fortunately I got a DirecTV R10 TiVo. It rocks! But those aren't sold anymore, due to DirecTV ending their contract with TiVo.

I hear great things about the Dish HD DVR. Awesome.
I prefer the dish network. I think that the quality and the DVR Channels are so much more better then DirectTV. You get more channels, better quality, and I think it's cheaper, too.

Hi,

I'd clearly vote for Dish cause:

- cheaper
- more channels and more variety
- awesome picture quality

You might check out http://www.dishnetworkbargains.net... - They currently run some promo with free Dish and DVR you might take advantage of. If you have any questions just call 'em up, they are professional and helpful.

Hope that helps.

Best wishes
