MOVING TO CHICAGO: where are the best public and private elementary schools?
I may be relocating to Chicago and need help targeting some neighborhoods to search. Here's my criteria...
1 - I have a 9yr old son and am looking for an area that's family friendly. I need good schools or private school options.
2 - I need to be near or have easy access to downtown.
3 - I'd love to find an area that is ethnically rich and culturally diverse.
4 - I need to stay in the $1200 range for a 2-3 Bdrm place..
Preferably a 2/3 or 6 flat.
I'm looking online and would LOVE your suggestions for areas to consider.
What are your thoughts? Suggestions? I'm ready to dig in!
Thanks so much!!

If you can get your son into the University of Chicago Lab School, then you should move to Hyde Park. Prices are right for your housing budget, plenty of ethnic and cultural diversity, commuter train access to Grant Park in just 15 minutes, and terrific intellectual environment. A little on the quiet side - it's not a party part of town - but that might be just what you want.
Good luck on your possible move!
This suburban girl doesn't know much about the city areas, I know which ones to stay out of that's about it.
There are many suburbs that have easy access to downtown, minutes away from major expressways and trains. As for diversity and good schools, that narrows it down to a couple, because the best school districts have little diversity.
Check out Oak Park, and Brookfield. Feel free to email me if you have any other questions, or you find an area you want to know more about. It would help to know if you want to be north or south.
